Indeed, and now Google provides the Gmail-service for other mail
providers as well... the time is over that gmail has been a geek
email service ;)

Anyway, in Germany there was a lawsuit because of the trademark
Gmail, so if German persons want a Gmail account nowadays, they
will get @googlemail.com instead - at least by the time Germans
could aquire a @gmail.com the userbase was rather geekish, so
this is an indicator at least in Germany...
