Hi!

I had the same problem with dwm 4.7 in Solaris.

This solution works for me and is not so complex:

        { MODKEY, XK_p, spawn,
                "$SHELL -c `dmenu_path | dmenu -fn '"FONT"' -nb '"NORMBGCOLOR"' -nf '"NORMFGCOLOR"'"
                " -sb '"SELBGCOLOR"' -sf '"SELFGCOLOR"'`" },

(Should work as good with zsh, bash and dash.)
