After applying the patch, I think st freezes sooner (but stutters
less), stays frozen longer, and when coming out of a freeze, only
updates the display once, instead of stuttering when thawing. As
before, most of the CPU time is spent inside the X server.

Please don't feel obligated to try to improve st on my account. I'm
reasonably happy with xterm.
