Maybe I did not understand your needs, but I give it a try.
Sandy uses, for selecting arbitrary text, Meta+` (or Spacebar) to set the mark,
then you move to the end of the text you wish to select, and then Ctrl+` (or
Spacebar). What about the introduction of v(isual), then movement, then verb
for doing something?
