I just figured it out! The way I can trigger the issue is by opening
mutt first before launching the music player. I think this may have
something to do with the characters used to draw the message tree -- for
the uninitiated mutt, threading mode in mutt uses characters like └─>
and ├ to render the thread structure. After that, if I switch to a
screen with my music player, some of the Japanese characters render
incorrectly.
