mpd is also extremely robust (I've had zero crashes or user-visible bugs
in many years of using it), completely frontend-agnostic (use a GUI, web
UI, commandline, curses, smartphone, perl/python/c/lua library, emacs,
whatever), and does the friggin' job...

It's also a network protocol, so you can go ahead and make a suckless
rewrite.
