I can't blame much the user about that issue, because it's a crash
rather than a warning. Also, when I first encountered the crash myself
several weeks ago, I firstly also thought it was a problem in st rather
than in a library. Note that the error does not mention that much xft.
What could help though is definitely add a note in the manual page under
a section BUGS or in the README/FAQ of st until libxft/freetype is fixed
upstream.
