Sure. I only enable the floating mode, if I know that I run an
application which behaves badly in tiled mode or if I want to
temporarily rearrange some clients freely on the fly.

In contrast to that, I use max only in the rare cases when I
actually want to concentrate on something going on in the
focused client, like reading code with more context, viewing a
picture, etc. I don't see much use for a max mode which
maximizes all clients...
