The easiest way is to just add
maximum_width 1
to .conkyrc.
Right now configuring conky with --disable-x11 causes compilation.
Tomorrow I'm going to look into fixing that, or maybe paring Torsmo
down into something acceptable. Meanwhile the maximum_width kludge
works.
