[dwm] program notification

Often i need to switch between the desktops to check if a program
changed his status (for example: if something is compiled or a message
from icq/jabber), so i thought something like systray-icons would be
nice, which shows you event changes.

So what think you about this idea? Or have you a better solution for my problem?
