To avoid feature creep I like to "test out" most new feature patches through the
wiki first. If enough users voice their opinion to include a patch it will most
likely be merged to mainline eventually.

My personal opinion is that the progress bar approach fits better with the
design goal of sent than the written slide numbers would do. Still, both
approaches are not perfect as they rely on the assumption that each slide will
take the same amount of time to present. We definitely can't predict the future
(in contrast to intel, amd and arm CPUs apparently…), so I think fixed length
presentations are better and then guests can just check the clock to figure out
how far through the presentation they are.
