Am also a bit curious about this since I feel like most tmux users
should be capable of figuring this out on their own quite easily.

The only situation I can think of where this is useful is if a novice
installed st straight from their binary package manager without doing
any research. Then they might look into the manpage first to see how to
enable scrollback.

But if that's the only reason, then I think simply having a scrollback
section on the manpage explaining to either use tmux(1), scroll(1) or
just the scrollback patch from the wiki would also achieve the same
goal.
