[hackers] Please Re-Send Your Mails Since September 20th

Hello everyone,

as with most changes, they are rarely without problems, and those
problems arise from the most surprising places. It turned out that
gradually no more mails would come through in the days following the
switch. Multiple tests were successful on the day, and also running the
maintenance was not an issue.

The cause was that after multiple bounces over the span of weeks, the
mlmmj maintenance script automatically removes subscribers. It does so
by editing the subscribers.d folder, which contains individual files
(a, b, c, d,...) corresponding to the first letter of the subscribed
e-mail address.

Unlike all other mlmmj programs that drop to the UID of the mailing
list folder owner, this doesn't, and as the maintd was run from the
root crontab, it gradually changed the file permissions to be
root-owned and unreadable for the _smtpd user.

In effect, no mails went through, so if you sent something since
September 20th, please re-send it. Use the archives[0] as a reference
to see that no incoming mails were registered.

The has been fixed now. I am so sorry for the inconvenience this has
caused!

With best regards

Laslo
