Just for kicks, I thought I'd try the support route from JetBrains (as
it is a pay-for product):

Here's what I got. Tell me if you agree with their assessment:

        I don't understand how pure Java application can crash your
        window
        manager. It's not IDEA problem for sure, it's probably your
        window
        manager bug that is triggered by JDK.
        
        You can try another JDK version to run IDEA or ask WM developers
        to
