Install xfonts-terminus and set:

WMII_FONT='-*-terminus-medium-*-*-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-*-*'

and tell me if that fixes your problem, if not, I suggest to
undefine X_HAVE_UTF8_STRING in your liblitz/blitz.h and check
again.
