[wmii] future of suckless.org

Hi there,

a couple of months ago I already announced that suckless.org
will be moved to a different host, well the truth is, it will
be split into 2 or 3 different hosts soon.

I already got access and am setting up a host which will have
the domains

  code.suckless.org
  lists.suckless.org

and which is intended to host the mercurial repositories of the
various tools like wmii, dwm, libixp, dmenu, etc. and the
mailing lists dwm@, wmii@, and hackers@ -- I'd like to close
wmii-hackers@ because that's somehow obsolete in my impression.
This host will also contain all releases and a mercurial web
interface to browse the source code.

There will also be a second host

  www.suckless.org
  dwm.suckless.org
  wmii.suckless.org

which will host the wiki(s?) (which will be editable through a
public mercurial repository) of the suckless projects. I'd like
to see a split of dwm and wmii in the wiki to have its own realm
each, because they haven't got much in common nowadays.

The roadmap of the switch looks as follows:

1. In the first step I'm going to switch the repositories to the
new host, this means that I need a response of all developers
who still contribute in one way or the other to any project to
send me an ssh key (I change the new host policy to be more
restrictive in the matters of access). I'd like to achieve this
until end of next week. So please send me your keys now (please
use garbeam_AT_gmail.com for this, we will discuss the details via
privmail.

2. In the second step I'm going to switch the mailinglist, this
will be by end of next week most likely. Note that the domain
of the mailinglists will change to

   lists.suckless.org

to make the move of the www part smooth.

3. In the last step I'm going to replace the current diri with a
mercurial-based version, which only comes with a viewer and
which does not allow HTTP POST based edits anymore. Contributors
can push to a public HTTP-based mercurial repository in the
future. I'd like to replace the plan9ports-based diri
dependency with an sh-based viewer script only. I'd like to
discuss this further with the wmii maintainers. Kris are you ok
to scrap the rc-based diri in favor of a simple sh-based viewer
script only?

As you will notice easily, the separate www-host consideration
has been made because of security concerns about the wiki being
publicly accessible.

I for myself have got a third server which I will use personally
only in the future, so no of the above hosts is intended for
personal use, except if it's in the scope of the suckless project.

Kind regards,
