Same here!

What I noticed is that the code I write without syntax-highlighting is
easier to read if you look at it with syntax highlighting than
comparable code written with SH and then looked at without.

I like to compare this with file management in a GUI-file manager and
using coretools only.
If you by chance browse a hard disk which has exclusively been managed
on the terminal, browsing it with a GUI-FM is easy, whereas browsing a
disk which has been "filled" using a GUI-FM is often painful and slow.

Just my 2 cents.
