I'm definitely for shift-ins (or at least ^y) to make it more consistent
with usual pasting procedures.

This might be getting off topic, but has the possibility of filename
completion in the argument field been considered or written (sorry if I
missed that part)? We could then do things like launching

  dmenu --base-path /home/some_user

and within dmenu, say:

  xpdf somedir<tab>/blah<tab>

to complete a unique filename within a unique directory (or not).
