It's strange because fast scrolling in tmux seems to be the only case
where st is unbearably slow. I've tried to profile this [1] but I've
not found anything conclusive...

You have to change FONT and BOLDFONT. To get a valid XLFD (the string
with all the *-*-*) you can use xfontsel(1). You will particularly
want to change the family (fmly) and height (pxlsz) field.
