This is a bug in the JDK. Is known by sun and us.

Read the mailing archives for more info. You'll find the related source code
where dwm is restricted as a non valid window manager for Java...

well ..the real thing is that they check if the WM is in it's list of
supported wm (icewm, metacity....), and if it's not make things go wrong.

afaik it works perfectly with GNU Classpath, and gnu classpath people is
also notified about this stuff, they tried to talk with sun people to make
them fix this stuff, but seems that nothing changed since then.

/me hopes to see this fixed in 1.7
