Hmm, cannot reproduce, for me xev reports F1 as key symbol when
pressing F1, thus F1 is correct, ie:

v2> wmir create /keys/mode/normal/F1 'extern xterm'

and afterwards running 'kmode normal' from C-M-a makes F1
working as expected.
