There's an even easier way to try ruby. All you need is a web
browser with javascript: Try Ruby! <http://tryruby.hobix.com/>

You might want to check out Mauricio Fernandez's wmiirc
<http://eigenclass.org/hiki.rb?wmii+ruby>. It is way more
sophisticated (but doesn't use IXP yet) than mine
<http://people.ucsc.edu/~skurapat/pub/wmii/snk-wmiirc-0.2.tar.gz>.
