Hello Joerg,
are you sure that the ALT (Option) key is correctly recognised by
wmii? Using wmiir read /event and xev verify that the ALT (Option)
key works with wmii.

I had to place the attached .Xmodmap in /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap
in order to get things running smoothly.
Since I am no export on xmodmap feel free to suggest improvements.

Please note that for the various bugs that still remain in OS X's
X11 (e.g. missing fullscreen support) I installed 2.1.1 of Xquartz
available at http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz
which might also make a difference.
