This is happening already (although "happening" might depend on how you
judge the progress of a project) : http://www.bitc-lang.org and

Actually, if someone can offer an opinion on Go vs. BitC, that would be
interesting to hear. I vaguely suspect that BitC takes a bit more away
than Go (and vastly less than Haskell) for the sake of analyzable
semantics.
