The only thing I know that works with a static site generator (hugo)
is described here[0].

The search system (as well as the site generator) is written in Go. In
the hugoidx project (which lets you index the hugo-generated site using
the bleve text indexing library[1]) there is still a lot of .js but theoretically
it should be possible to get rid of it and build your own custom thing (could
take some time though depending on your needs).
