Check out the section on the /tag/ hierarchy in `man wmii`. You want
"grow", which you write to /tag/<tag>/ctl with a frame, direction, and
amount. For example:

$ wmiir xwrite /tag/sel/ctl grow sel sel left 1

grows the currently selected frame to the left.
