"Just work" is myopic, in many situations it assumes that all users have
the same end goals. Sane default configuration == good. Not being able
to configure things == stupid (and yes, I consider config.h to be a
"configuration file").

By the way, in that readme, you don't need to escape each expansion.
Just quote the heredoc delimiter (ie. "<< 'EOF'").
