from my experiences (I'm not using slim at the moment) slim uses ~/.xinitrc
I was not using the session variable (exec /bin/sh -login ~/.xinitrc
%session) because I preferred xwmconfig on slackware, but if you want to
use the session variable you need a custom ~/.xinitrc (see xinitrc.sample
from the slim source).
in this custom ~/.xinitrc you have your custom while loop etc.
