[wmii] best way to test a snap

Hi all,

What is the best way to test a snap and not mess things too much?
The way I did it until now was:
cd /usr/src/wmii-<latest>
make clean install
restart play with it, etc.

Then after I wanted to get back to a more stable snap which
I use regularily, I just:
cd /usr/src/wmii-20060302
make install (it was already compiled on this machine since
2006/03/02)
restart && echo 'happy'

This all worked just fine, until today. Same steps, but after
I got back to my stable 20060302 when I try to send something
to tag 2 (Alt-Shift-2), I end up on tag '0' ?!? and Alt-[0-9]
don't work anymore for changing tags... can't even get back to
tag 1...

I already tried a 'make clean install', no difference... I'm
stuck on tag 0, S.O.S. ... --- ... ;)
