I meant the other simple ;)

SEMs are a bad example as those are pretty much bought and fine-tuned
for one specific task or for specific parameters they work in. Anyway,
You could try to build an SEM that can scan any object of any size and
support arbitrary zoom factors, and even have spectrometers and stuff
included, but if you don't really need this, you a) spend way to much
and b) have a way too complicated thing to use and maintain. So you
would most likely pick one fixed-size microscope for your lab that will
fit our needs.
